Behind the scenes of the books by Robert Tieman

THE MICKEY MOUSE TREASURES. One of the less well-known details about writing books like mine is the lengthy time between when I actually deliver all the materials—text, illustrations and removable objects—and the time when the finished book arrives on bookstore shelves.

I’m happy to announce that “The Mickey Mouse Treasures” is now available in both a Japanese and a U.S. edition. Visit your favorite Disney park or bookseller to buy your copy.

This new book is in the same familiar format as my previous “Disney Treasures” and “Disney Keepsakes” books, but concentrates on the Big Cheese exclusively. Yes, it’s All-Mickey! Don’t we all agree that he deserves a Treasures book of his own?

Some of the fantastic removable pieces of memorabilia you can look forward to are:
- Hand-written by Walt, a list of gag suggestions for a Mickey cartoon with the cash bonus he was awarding each one
- A highly-crafted vintage pop-up from the 1930s.
- A theatre program & bookmark from “Fantasia”
- Early Disneyland postcards

Individual chapters are devoted to varied all-Mickey topics from the Fanchon & Marco vaudeville stage shows to Disneyland parades, and from early merchandise to postal commemoratives. Also included are sections on Mickey’s most memorable cartoons, his patriotic contribution to World War II, and even a fully-illustrated “mouse family tree” compiled in one place for the first time.

The highlight of the book, however, has to be the lavishly illustrated, six-page chapter on “The Mouse That Might Have Been”—all about some Mickey cartoons that were planned, but never made it to the screen. Included in this chapter are removable reproductions of never-before-seen story sketches for a short called “Mickey’s Hotel.”

I hope everyone enjoys my latest book and has as much fun going through it as I had compiling it.

At a book signing at The Disney Studio Store, Burbank, for my first book.

I am looking forward to new book signings for The Mickey Mouse Treasures later in 2007. I'll post the dates as they occur.

One final note. Many readers have asked me about my very first book, Disney's Photomosaics, a collection of computer-generated collages from classic animated films. I selected the images and wrote the text. Well-known computer artist, Robert Silvers, generated the astounding images. Copies of the book are hard to find. But if you are interested in getting a signed copy, drop me a line. I still have a few copies for sale.Send me your request. Thanks for your interest and support.
